Build, Buy, or Build On Top: The Future‑Proof Broker’s Technology Strategy

At the 2026 Finance Magnates Singapore Summit, Andrew Saks speaks with with Aeby Samuel, CEO and Founder of FYNXT, diving deeper into one of the most critical but often overlooked themes in broker tech: API architecture and long‑term flexibility.

Aeby’s message is clear: whether you build in‑house or buy from a vendor, the real differentiator is how well your systems can evolve over time.

The cost of bad tech choices

Brokers that rush to build everything themselves – or that pick closed, inflexible platforms – often find themselves stuck with heavy technical debt that becomes a real barrier to growth.

  • As the business matures, demand grows for new integrations: front‑end workflows, CRM, IB management, analytics, and now AI‑driven tools.
  • Without a strong, API‑first foundation, adding these capabilities becomes slow, expensive, and fragile.

Aeby emphasises that the right approach is to treat the technology stack like a modular platform: core trading and data wrapped in clean APIs, with the freedom to plug in and swap out pieces as the business evolves.

“Build on top” instead of “build from scratch”

For Aeby, the ideal model is neither pure build nor pure buy, but “build on top of”.

  • At FYNXT, he’s deliberate about not competing with the broker’s own build ambitions. Instead, the platform is designed to let brokers extend and customise:
    • Client experience (front‑end design, onboarding flows, reporting dashboards).
    • IB and partner management (incentive structures, rebates, CPA logic).
    • Risk and analytics (integrations with third‑party modules).
  • Every broker wants to look and feel unique; FYNXT’s job is to provide the underlying infrastructure that makes that customisation fast and safe.

Operational excellence in the AI era

With AI tools now accessible to almost every broker, everyone will soon have powerful technology at their fingertips. What will separate the winners from the rest is:

  • The quality of the foundation they’re building on.
  • How flexible and modular that foundation is.

Aeby argues that the brokers who will survive and thrive are those who:

  • Focus on operational excellence and client‑facing strengths.
  • Manage their technical weaknesses by partnering with best‑in‑class providers.
  • Choose platforms that let them scale integrations and capabilities without constantly rebuilding the core.
